When I go on Justin Guitar’s strumming machine, I can customize up/down patterns as I wish in a 4/4 measure. For example:

and so on.
Am new to this app and was wondering how I can customize patterns similar to what I see on Justin’s strumming machine.
There’s a lot of customization that can be done to the guitar strumming patterns in Strum Machine… but not on the level of saying “play this arbitrary selection of beats”. That may come someday. But for now, the current band settings interface is designed to accommodate just a handful of genres (most notably bluegrass, where the strumming is more nuanced than the kind of “pop” strumming that Justin is focusing on) and let you customize the sound of the strumming pattern without getting too deep into the nitty gritty of determining what to play on each beat.
Here’s the help documentation on the Band Settings menu, where instruments can be customized.
As a starting point, I suggest you load up one of the “boom chuck with upstrokes” strumming patterns, then go into the Feel setting and play around with that:
Also be sure to check out the “Syncopated” pattern, which is basically “D DU UDU”.
