Now that I’m using Strum Machine through a large sound system, I’ve discovered the benefit of adding a bass line. I always start my tunes with an Intro section that only plays the first time. Randomly, the first bass note is sometimes missing from the playback of that Intro. I’ve seen it in the key of G, though can’t say for sure it is related to the key.
Update: Now that I added this bug report, I went back into my iPhone and tried to make it happen. I couldn’t repeat it. I’ve seen it quite often in the past two weeks because I’m adding several songs per day.
Update 2: Got it. I created a tune in G that has an intro and a bass line. Open it and play it and notice the bass line. The first bass note is missing. Play it again and the first note is back.
I just opened and played your song on my IPhone DM
I don’t notice any missing bass notes on the intro
I tried it several times
So this is through the iPhone app then? Audio playback has been fraught with problems recently, which is why I have been working on a new audio engine to replace the current one being used. I wrote about the issue here, although I started over from scratch on September 1st with a new audio engine (#5 for those keeping count) which will hopefully be approved by Apple for beta testing in the next day or two.
That said, this particular problem sounds like it might have something to do with the Bluetooth speaker (assuming you’re using one). Some Bluetooth speakers go to “sleep” if there’s no audio for awhile, and they drop out the first little bit of audio that is played. Strum Machine attempts to work around this by playing a very quiet bit of audio, then starting the real playback after a short delay. But I’m not sure it’s 100% effective.
Yes, with iPhone. If what you’re saying is true then it shouldn’t happen if I use the count-in. I’ll run a few tests soon, or just wait for the beta release to see if it is improved.
Oh, that’s a great point… if you’re using a count-in and the bass notes are being dropped, then it’s not an issue with the Bluetooth speaker. Hopefully the new beta version will fix it. (Come on Apple, approve it already!)
