How to get arpeggiated 3/4 time?

I found this online. What is Logic Pro’s Strum Machine? I have Strum Machine, can set 3/4 time, but don’t see any of the setting this AI description says to do. Help please!

To achieve an arpeggiated 3/4 time in Logic Pro’s Strum Machine, set the “Swing” parameter to 0% and then use the arpeggiator function, selecting a pattern that plays each chord tone on a separate beat within the 3/4 measure; you can further customize the arpeggiator settings like “Direction” and “Octave” to fine-tune the sound.

Key steps:

  • Select a 3/4 time signature:

Ensure your Strum Machine project is set to 3/4 time in the Logic Pro project settings.

  • Set Swing to 0%:

Access the Strum Machine’s “Swing” parameter and set it to 0% to ensure each note is played evenly on the beat.

  • Activate the Arpeggiator:

    • Navigate to the Strum Machine’s arpeggiator settings (usually accessible through a dedicated button or menu).
    • Enable the arpeggiator function.
  • Choose a suitable arpeggiator pattern:

    • Select an arpeggiator pattern that plays each chord tone on a separate beat within the 3/4 measure.
    • For a basic 3/4 arpeggio, look for a pattern with 3 steps, corresponding to the 3 beats in the measure.
  • Adjust arpeggiator settings (optional):

    • Direction: Choose “Up” or “Down” to define the arpeggiator’s note sequence.
    • Octave: Adjust the octave range of the arpeggiated notes.

This is, unfortunately, an example of AI completely hallucinating something that doesn’t exist. In this case, I’m guessing this may be relevant to Logic (which is a DAW, or digital audio workstation program).

In general, AI doesn’t work well with “how to use Strum Machine questions” – it has a vague idea of what Strum Machine is, but it quickly gets confused and spits out falsehoods. (Someday I’d like to train an AI to know how to use Strum Machine and offer it in the Help menu, but haven’t yet figured out how to do that and also eliminate hallucinations.)

To answer your question: if you have a waltz pulled up, you can open Band Settings, then Guitar, then Pattern, then scroll down to Arpeggios.

Got it, Luke!! Thanks! I have the arpeggiated waltz rhythm now. But actually, I wish the downbeat was not so strong. Still, it’s better for my song than straight waltz time.

I’m eagerly awaiting arpeggiated 6/8 rhythm – hopefully without a strong 1 and 4 beat.
