Hi
First time posting. Don’t know if this is where I should ask but is there a way to import chords from Chordify? I look up songs and type in by hand but it is very time consuming.
Thanks
John
Would. be nice…but I imagine there is a reasonable explanation. I think there is other software that may work that way. Maybe ChordAI, but I don’t know. I have same question about a text line I could type in lyrics…Band in the Box does that, but is cumbersome. Strummachine is so helpful I hate to see someone else figure these things out and supplant SM after all the work. It takes a lot of time and effort to manually do what you are doing.
Chordify is a separate web domain from StrumMachine. That means Chordify would have to enable StrumMachine to import directly from their website. That also opens a can of worms about security issues for hackers. Chordify uses memberships with monthly charges, so they would probably want to start charging StrumMachine users for the ability to import. Since you’re currently copy and pasting, I assume you do not have a paid membership with Chordify. All of the online Chord sites use paid memberships for advanced features of their content. But their are a few sites that share songs in ABC format. However that is all the note information, not juse chords and not very useful for StrumMachine. So I don’t thing there is any way for StrumMachine to do an automatic import from of content from any website. Since they all have some form of monetised membership, I doubt they would every make that available to StrumMachine for free.
So I do have some very rough ideas for how to allow for the importing of charts from Chordify (among other sources) in the future, using export formats already provided by those third-party services. And I can’t rule out the possibility of adding chord detection directly into Strum Machine. We’re probably years away from either of these happening, though, if I’m being realistic.
Part of the problem with a Chordify import would be mapping the Chordify chart, which is linear and often has extra “space” at the beginning, with a Strum Machine chart which is more “logical” with sections, repetitions, a count-in for lead-in notes, etc. It’s a solvable problem, but I’d probably have to build some sort of import tool with an additional step that lets you “map” the detected chords onto a Strum Machine chart.
(Also, in my limited experience I’ve found the Chordify chord detection to be only somewhat reliable, but I digress…)
For now, if you’re finding entering songs time-consuming I just want to make sure that you’re using a keyboard and know the keyboard shortcuts (viewable by clicking “Shortcuts” at the bottom of the editor). I just “raced myself” by entering a song using the mouse and then the keyboard – I’m fast with both input devices, but the mouse took three times as long and was more annoying because of all the “aiming” I had to do. So if you’re entering a lot of songs I highly recommend taking a little time to learn the keyboard shortcuts.
