We run both Irish and Old Time sessions monthly (in Reading UK) and newbies even regulars often differ in accompaniment. So I came up with this solution which seems to work great and everyone is on the same page.
Using Strummachine on my android phone I select my preferred tune chord accompaniment from availble lists. I don’t play the audio I just display the chord list. Then using a free android app called AirDroid I cast it to my tablet which has the same app for receiving my phone display both being on the same wifi.
My tablet is placed on a raised holder and located at an advantage point for most if not all to see. So everthing I do on my phone is also visible to everyone! Where would we be without such brilliant inventions?
Good idea! I use an App called Songbook (www.linkesoft.com) for the same purpose (with tunes and songs). I never thought of using SM that way. Neat. I’ll give that a try. I’m from Wantage btw, just down the road from you.
I’m confused. Why not just open Strum Machine on your tablet? What am I missing?
I can leave the tablet in a propped up position and in an ideal location for others to see so that I don’t have to reach or stretch for it to choose every tune and reposition it again once chosen. I just leave the tablet where it is and do all those changes on my phone which is right beside me. When playing I read the chords from my phone for usually I only see the rear of the tablet (facing it towards me would only make it nonviewable to others).
Thanks. I get it. Good idea.
