My practice and backing tracks

I am an adult beginner (maybe intermeidiate) fiddler. Mostly Irish Traditional tunes. I have been using Strum Machine for ~4 years. When I am learning new tunes by ear I make a solitary A part that loops until I get comfortable, then I do the increase speed to get up to session level. I do this with the B part as well. I have a practice list that contains things like “Drowsy Maggie A, Drowsy Maggie B, Ger the Rigger A, etc.”.

I also play with several others monthy at an assisted living home. Several of the tunes in our set are backed by tracks I made from SM. I usually put a 2 measure intro, then into the tune.

Thanks, this is really helpful to me and my group.

I’m glad to hear that Strum Machine is working well for you!

The approach of making separate “songs” that contain just one part of a tune has its advantages, but I want to make sure that you and anyone else reading this knows that you can loop just part of a tune by clicking-and-dragging over the chords, like selecting text:

Also if you want a longer count-in, there’s a “Double length count-in” option available under the Count-Ins menu on the right of the song. More count-in options will be coming in the future.

Keep it up!
