My latest push is to learn a lot of Celtic fiddle tunes on the guitar. I can technically play the tunes up to speed but I’m trying to push the act of playing down lower in the cerebral cortex so I can play it without thought and spend more time making it flow and feel good. I use SM machine on a 2 monitor computer. I put SM on the right monitor then run an interesting video (without sound) on the left monitor. I watch the video while repeating the same tune on SM and guitar for many many times in a row. I like to watch Swiss train videos like this one. Swiss Train Video What do others do for this type of practice?
I use it ever single day for at least 3 hours. Banjo and then lap steel with benders. Ive isolated several things I need to work to perfect. Wishful thinking. I started out with bluegrass tunes on banjo but started arranging several different song genres for banjo. If I lived around a big bluegrass community, I’d get back to it. 59 years old and have a deeper hunger to learn new things than ever. Being retired helps too.
Lucky you being retired! Someday soon…
I live near a lot of Old Time musicians. I’d like to find more Celtic musicians but they don’t exist in this part of the country.
Ha! I do the same thing only with Japanese train videos.
Playing tight while being loose is a goal of mine. You can really get into “the golden place” when that happens,
