I would enjoy having some simple user-defined attributed attributes for songs.
If these attributes were viewable in a list, it would enable the user to focus on certain certain of those attributes for play or practice.
For example, which songs to play at the jam tonight? Which songs do I need to work on timing? Which tunes do I need to focus more on backup? Which tunes are suited to vocals?, Keys?, Which tunes are slow or fast? Capo’d or re-tuned or not?
In this way, I would be able to glance at a list and pick out relevant tunes. Focus on playing.

Sounds like you’d like the ability to “tag” or “label” songs, and then be able to filter based on those tags. I very much want to add this, not just for my users but for my own use. I actually created a separate test app awhile back to experiment with some ideas I had for this. Tackling this and other “index/search/lists” features are something I hope to tackle as my next “big project” after tying up various loose ends that were left undone with the last update, like keyboard shortcuts and other improvements.

Examples that came up as I was playing out. I could not recall the name of a tune that used the style of “Arpeggiated Celtic Waltz”. I wanted to show off Strum’s abilities. The other was trying to recall tunes that used the Quebecois feet or even the Quebecois style. This would seem suited to setting up a database for each user to access with a button so as not to clutter the screen-or maybe within an existing button. But needs planning. User would pick variables. You’d have to allow Mine as the default choice or from list or from archive maybe-have not thought it all through. Do you make reports or just lists of tunes. Right now I am only interested in lists of tunes whose names I can’t recall. Good idea and now I know why.
In many softwares that use lists of stuff, there is the option to define (custom) colors that represent some label, like ‘work in progress’ added to a list item. Could, at least visually, easily be added to list elements. Works really well to find elements at a glance.
But if you need to categorize a tune with multiple labels, that would be a different matter. Then you’d probably need filters of some form, really impacting the UI. And you wouldn’t be able to see the label in the main lists at a glance. Depends how far you want to take this, I guess…
But to have these categories/labels then transferred as part of the tune to other users will be a whole other matter - I might not agree with your labeling, might not want that label in my collection. Because before I know it, I could have hundreds of labels in all kinds of different spellings. To prevent that, labels will need to be fixed and that would remove the option to create them to your needs…

Keyboard shortcuts are an important item for me. I appreciate the fact that SM is a simple and easy to use tool. For me, playing and practicing are key. My interest in user defined attributes is to make it easier to recognize certain songs to practice or play next. Also, user defined seems only useful for the user that defined it.
In short, I am very happy with the tool as is.
Anytime I spend my time playing - rather than clicking is time well spent. Thanks.
