Just a quick note to say how great SM works as vocal practice - as well as instrument.
I’ve used SM for several months now and just realized another opportunity: while driving.
To be clear, I do not watch my phone while driving. But, I pick a tune that I want to practice and just loop and drive. (I don’t think passengers would tolerate my practice. ![]()
But it works great for short trips. )
I can focus on sustain, and volume - as well as melody accuracy. Also, since I do not look at my phone, I get a little ear training as well.
When I am back home, I work in my instrument and pay attention to cadence. I am all about SM as a great tool for practice. Thanks so much!
Thank you, Tony
I have found Strum Machine great for the same reason!
I like to modulate keys until I think it sounds right. I used Strum Machine to help me find my natural key for many songs like Burning Love, which Elvis sings in D. I found out I sing it great in G or A.
Keep on keeping on
I would agree also. I too have practice singing in the car. Just bluetooth to the car audio system and sing away the stress of the day.
Not to mention, it’s great for memorizing lyrics.
Also practice for harmony singing!
Great point, Dave.
I seem to suffer from harmony “addiction” - I tend to hear the harmony - when I’m supposed to be singing the melody (lead). I listen to other lead renditions for help. (Toneway is helpful).
But I sometimes struggle finding a good key for myself. Any suggestions?
Thanks to all for the feedback!
I usually play in a live non-amplified environment. So, Any suggestions on what to do with my banjo while singing? Sorta strum, vamp? Play a few melody notes? Thanks.
I play 3 finger style (melodic or Scruggs) with picks.
